The mission of the Alpha eXcellence Foundation is to advance academic achievement, leadership development, and civic engagement among individuals in South Carolina, particularly those from historically underrepresented communities.

Chairman’s Statement

As the Chairman of the Alpha Excellence Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 tax tax tax-exempt organization, I am honored to lead an organization that is passionately dedicated to empowering individuals through a multifaceted approach that encompasses education, leadership development, and community service. Our mission is rooted in the belief that by investing in people, we can create transformative opportunities that pave the way for personal and professional success.

We strive to provide comprehensive educational resources and mentorship programs that equip individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Our leadership initiatives focus on nurturing the next generation of leaders by fostering critical thinking, resilience, and ethical decision-making. Moreover, we actively engage in community service projects, reinforcing our commitment to giving back and making a tangible impact in the communities we serve.

Together, we are building a robust framework of support that not only addresses immediate needs but also lays the groundwork for sustainable growth and success. Black Ice Scholarship Gala

The Black Ice Scholarship Gala raises funds for scholarship initiatives for the Alpha eXcellence Foundation. Through the Gala, the Alpha eXcellence Foundation in collaboration with the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are able to award financial support to deserving high school students desiring to attend college and provide financial support to and advocacy for local causes surrounding education, mentoring, leadership development and uplifting the downtrodden of humanity.

ALPHA EXCELLENCE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

This annual scholarship is awarded to a minority male high school student that plans to further his education at a four year institution of higher learning. The recipient of this award must excel in academics and in leadership on his campus and in the community. Three scholarships are offered in each county (Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester).

emPOWERing KINGS MENTORING PROGRAM

emPOWERing KINGS, a multi-session education curriculum and mentoring program designed to prioritize the sexual and reproductive health education of Black high school and college-aged young men.

DR. MARTIN LUTHER ORATORICAL COMPETITION SCHOLARSHIP

Xi Phi Lambda hosts an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Competition. In its fifth year, the event honors the legacy of Bro. Dr. King and allows middle and high school students to compete for cash scholarship prizes.

Reading Across America

Brothers go to various elementary schools to inspire children to read, byt selecting books at that grade level and reading to the children for half a day.

Brothers participated in the Adopt-A-Highway cleanup Saturday, May 31st, at 8 am, cleaning Dorchester Rd between Wescott Blvd and Club Course Dr.

Since 1989, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. (AAHLRSA) has cleaned over 1,000,000 miles of U.S. highways & Interstates – but let’s start at the beginning…

In 1989, our founder volunteered to “Adopt A Highway” in Laguna Beach, California to advertise her small business with the name on the side of a busy roadway. The marketing impact of the sign was immediate. An idea was formed! Shortly after that, AAHLRSA was born.

In the early stages, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. partnered with the CalTrans to develop a SPONSORSHIP program. Over the past 33 years, the Adopt A Highway sponsorship model has expanded nationwide. We manage programs throughout the United States. Known as Adopt A Highway, Sponsor A Highway or Sponsor A Street, we treat each mile as if it were our own front yard. Our dedicated team of professionals manages the daily operations of the litter removal programs, tailoring each program to the unique requirements of the local department of transportation (DOT). AAHLRSA is proud to have cleaned 51,765 miles of highway and rid the roads of 2.1 million pounds of litter last year.

Black History Moment: A federal holiday since 1971, the roots of #MemorialDay go back over a century prior, to the end of the Civil War.

On May 1, 1865, freed African Americans, including former slaves, organized a ceremony to honor the Union soldiers who died at the Washington Race Course. The event involved a parade, speeches, and a picnic, and was attended by thousands of people, mostly African Americans.

The ceremony took place at the Washington Race Course, which had been converted into a prison camp for Union soldiers during the Civil War. Many of the soldiers who died in the camp were buried in unmarked graves.

This event is significant because it was one of the earliest celebrations of Memorial Day, and it was led by African Americans who were also celebrating their newfound freedom. The ceremony also served as a powerful act of remembrance and a way to honor the sacrifices of Union soldiers.

While Charleston is widely considered the birthplace of Memorial Day, the exact origins of the holiday are still debated. Some sources cite a similar ceremony in Columbus, Mississippi, in 1866. However, the Charleston event on May 1, 1865, is often cited as the first known Memorial Day celebration due to its scale, organization, and the involvement of freed African Americans.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. condemns President Donald J. Trump’s executive order today that aims to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and stands against any other efforts to gut the agency from within. We strongly urge all state attorney generals to join the fight to block the effort.

The Fraternity sees this effort as part of a larger agenda to eliminate educational opportunities for marginalized and underserved students, particularly those who are poor, racially marginalized, and living with disabilities, as well as to dramatically decrease those able to afford and pursue a college education and prevent the enforcement of civil rights and educational equity.

As the world’s first and leading intercollegiate Fraternity founded by African American men, this attack is the antithesis to why our illustrious Fraternity was conceived and founded, as well as in direct opposition to what we as men of Alpha represent.

Currently, we are also asking all Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter Presidents to contact their U.S. Congressmen and Senators, expressing the Fraternity’s position as well as confirming where each elected official stands on this matter. The Fraternity will be producing a list of the stances of all US Congressional officials as part of ourVoteless People is a Hopeless Peopleinitiative.
